GUELPH— Nearly 400 customers in Guelph are suffering from frozen water pipes, according to a recent city report.
The City of Guelph has already installed 42 temporary water lines and will be installing more than 100 more over the next few days.
More than 200 properties are currently enrolled in the city's frozen water assistance program.
In a city news release, Peter Busatto, general manager of the water services department, said the temporary line installation will be doled out based on those with the greatest need. First to be served will be those who have been going without water for the longest. Businesses without water have also been made a priority.
The city is receiving calls daily from residents and businesses about frozen pipes. Crews are currently working on installing temporary lines for customers who called for service on or before Feb. 26.
The cold weather forecasted for remainder of the week is expected to cause more pipes to freeze and more residents to go without water.
The city is asking residents already involved in the city's frozen water assistance program to limit the times they call the city. This would clear the lines and allow for others to report their own frozen pipe issues.
